Module breakdown
👐🏻 General approach
The Course is mostly studio based and with a cohort of around 100, you do get to know everyone throughout the four years.
The first two years feel very syllabus driven and you are encouraged to work in a specific manner.
From third year onwards you are free to experiment and design towards what specifically interests you. After your year out in placement in the latter half of your third year, communication with tutors becomes less of a critique and more of a discussion.
The design courses are brief driven with weekly tutorials and semi regular ‘crits’.
Often a lovely tight cohort, and the studio environment is really enjoyable.
Not the most technical of Architecture degrees, and much more theoretical and creative.
💖 Student support
The workload is quite overwhelming at first but is manageable when you find your feet.
There’s a scheme called ‘Architecture Parents’ where as a first year you are delegated two mentors from the year above who can support you and any queries you may have.
This system sort of disappears later on in the degree, however you are allocated a Personal Tutor from within the department for your whole degree - this tutor can act as a port of call if you want to chat about anything in particular.
🛠️ Facilities
You have your own studio space when you are taking a design based course. Some studio spaces you are allocated each year are better than others, facility wise, but you have basically 24 hour access to computers and printers across the various buildings.
